australia day and cny
26 January 2009

today is australia day.
it's like national day but we kinda lost count how old australia really are.
well today marks the day Captain Arthur Phillip arrive in Sydney Cove which is known today as Botany Bay.
when was that? 1788.
quite literally you can put it that we are ermm 221 years old.
but the commonwealth of australia only come on 1st January 1901.
that's when all the laws, bills, prime minister come into effect la.
i really don't know much about australia history except for this two fact hehe.
maybe cos it's very old, classic and historic and seriously LENGTHY.
but then again since i'm australian AND a singaporean.
i will celebrate this day with much pride and patriotism.
very cool huh.
so what did i do today?
lol. nothing much except that i drew australia flag on my right hand.
hahaha. i worked and cos its a public holiday i get paid $31.675 an hour.
hoho. but there was a few events happening at darling harbour.
some of my mates asked if i wanted to go dinner and stay for the fireworks but.
ahhh can't be bothered. instead i went home and had a good sleep.
true aussie spirit huh.
what do people usually do today?
there's no padang or national stadium showcasing world's greatest defence force, for sure.
lol but there's a huge parade arvo just now.
like ppl dress up and stuffs and parade their way through george st from hyde park to the harbour.
families have parties.
they have barbecues to be exact.
not forgetting their beers.
aussies are alcoholic. like hardcore ones.
there's fireworks.
hmm there isn't any rasa sayang eh or muneeru valiba. lol.
i don't think there's even any patriotic songs la. except for one.
i kinda like it actually.
it sings about the multicultural australia.
we are one but we are many.
that's what i love abt australia really.
it's very colourful.
only 52% of australians are born in australia u know.
its a true land of migrants.
and people here appreciate that. which is awesome cos i'm a migrant too.
so that's pretty much it actually.
people here usually spend australia day with their loved ones.
or ppl cant really bother much anyway lol.
except for the true bogans.
like hardcore australians lol.
and no, not many are patriotic.
oh and we don't hang australia flags in our house.
haha some people put in their cars. lol.
like malaysia nye national day. but nahh.
like i said not many of us are patriotic.
we remember, we tell, but for the rest of it, it's just like any other day. (:
soo singapore's national day 9th august will be the next one i will blog abt.
with the same patriotism and semangat.
ahaha.
never thought i will celebrate two national days.
right. then its chinese new year too.
heaps of gong xi fa cai's at work.
and ang pao na lai.
but no ang pao la.

the city is one busy hub today.
